Bridge Project Engineer

Our Cleveland, Ohio (Strongsville) office is in search of a Bridge Project Engineer who possesses prior experience in ODOT-type design projects. The ideal candidate should be a self-driven individual who thrives in a team environment, providing crucial structural engineering support, primarily for transportation enhancement initiatives. Our projects typically encompass a wide range of bridge types, including steel beams, steel girders, precast/pre-stressed concrete box and I-beams, concrete slabs, 3-sided and 4-sided concrete box structures, and various prefabricated culvert designs. These projects cater to diverse clients, including the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), counties, municipalities, and private property owners.

Responsibilities will involve designing, assessing, and inspecting a variety of structures, ranging from bridges to retaining walls. The winning candidate will collaborate closely with a team of highly regarded structural engineers who take pleasure in mentoring the next generation of industry leaders. This position presents an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer to swiftly progress into a Project Manager role.

Position Title: Bridge Project Engineer

Position Status: Full-Time

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
  • Five or more years working under an experienced Bridge Design Engineer (PE)
  • Professional Engineer license in the State of Ohio
  • Experience using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience using Structural Engineering Design Software
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of office products including Teams, Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Excellent Communication and Organizational skills

This candidate should be driven to enhance his/her expertise through mentorship and further training or coursework. In addition, prior experience in bridge inspection, bridge design, and load ratings is essential for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute as a team member involved in designing a variety of bridge improvement projects across Ohio.
  • Assume responsibility for the technical aspects of small to medium-sized projects.
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to execute fieldwork, conduct design calculations, prepare plans, estimate quantities, and deliver submissions to diverse clients.
  • Generate both preliminary and detailed design plans, quantity calculations, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Provide guidance to Design Engineers and Technicians assigned to the project.
  • Apply critical thinking skills in developing, assessing, selecting, and adjusting established engineering methods and procedures.
  • Engage in communication with clients and/or sub-consultants regarding ongoing design projects.
  • May require periodic field construction observation and responding to Requests for Information during construction phase.

While previous experience in bridge inspection and load ratings is a plus, it is not mandatory.

  • Creating preliminary design/CAD files, quantities, specifications, and estimated construction costs.

Civil Engineering Intern/Co-Op

Our Strongsville office is searching for a civil engineering student for an internship or co-op opportunity. The duties include assisting experienced engineers with basic design calculations, quantity take-offs, site visits, and reports. Projects include bridges, traffic, drainage and roadway improvements and/or surveying.

Position Title: Civil Engineering Intern/Co-Op

Position Status: Full-Time or Temporary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current status as a sophomore, junior or senior actively enrolled in an ABET accredited undergraduate civil engineering program.

The preferred candidate will be willing to learn as a dedicated team member and be self-motivated and willing to do a variety of entry level tasks to build expertise and confidence.

Survey Technician

Our Cleveland, Ohio (Strongsville) office is looking for a Survey Technician to support our growing survey department. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who likes being part of a team providing surveying services primarily for transportation, municipal engineering and land development projects both in the office and in the field.

Position Title: Survey Technician

Position Status: Full-Time

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience and/or training in land surveying or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel office software
  • Ability to work outdoors under various field and weather conditions
  • Willingness and ability to adjust to a flexible work schedule that may include overtime
  • Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Ideal candidates will also have:

  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of land surveying and ground control
  • Skills using conventional survey equipment, GPS, Robotic Total Stations, and Data Collectors
  • Knowledge in technical software (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation with Open Roads Design)

The candidate will be responsible for performing various land survey tasks under the direction of a registered land surveyor or crew chief. This position requires both field and office skills. Field work will include boundary and topographic surveys and construction layout. Office work will include creating CAD maps from field data and mapping existing utilities and underground infrastructure from existing plans.
